A superb Burr and figured Walnut linen press by London cabinet makers T. H. Filmer & Sons. Having moulded arch panel doors which open to reveal the original linen slides, beneath there is an arrangement of 2 short and 2 full length drawers, all with the original locks and turned knob handles. The whole raised on a plinth base. The combination of the classic understated design combined with the timber make this a very striking and unusual piece of English furniture. Outstanding colour and condition throughout. English, Circa 1850. The linen press splits into 2 sections from original for the ease of manoeuvrability.
The linen press bares a paper label showing that the press once belonged to Sir H. C. Bannerman. Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (7 September 1836 – 22 April 1908) was British Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1905 to 1908.
