A superb Walnut library table by Gillows. Having a shaped moulded top with acanthus carved corners. Raised on acanthus carved supports, terminating in hairy paw feet with original brass inset castors. Exceptional untouched condition with wonderful colour throughout. English, Circa 1850. Atb.
An identical table to this was sold in Sotheby's "The Great Exhibition Sale 1851", London 31st October 2006, lot no: 518 and believed to be closely related to the exhibition table itself and this too may have been en suite. The Great Exhibition of 1851 was the first of its kind, held in The Crystal Palace, Hyde Park London. It showcased the absolute best of craftsmanship and manufacturing of the 19th century from around the world.
