An unusual wall mirror being in figured oak with a giltwood slip and magical highly foxed mercury mirror plate. Having a wonderful original finish with rich patina. Retaining part of the original makers label for *Freeman, Jeremiah & William & C. This mirror can be hung either portrait or landscape. English, Circa 1840.
*Freeman, Jeremiah, William & C. Norwich, Norfolk; carvers and gilders, cabinet makers (fl.1792–1851) William Philip Barnes Freeman, carver and gilder, son of William Freeman, carver and gilder was admitted a freeman of Norwich on 25 July 1835. It was probably this William who with C. Freeman (relationship not known) were described as designers & manufacturers, of London Street, Norwich, of a walnut and ebony carved cabinet displayed at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
